Norway is well-known for high quality fish products. This quality is recognised in our omega-3 oil which is a completely Norwegian product, produced in Norway from Norwegian-Arctic cod.
Why Norwegian-Arctic cod?
The best source of omega-3 fatty acids are fatty fish and cold-water fish such as cod. Cod is known for its excellent quality and is one of the most sought-after fish products around the world. The cod-liver is especially rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
The Norwegian-Arctic cod
is the world’s largest cod stock. The Norwegian-Arctic cod is found in Norwegian waters. Our unique location in northern Europe surrounded by cold, clear waters are perfect environment for the cod. Our cold climate may create some challenges for humans, but our fish thrive. The climate is also favourable for the processing of raw materials.
The Norwegian-Arctic cod travels far out to sea to the ice-cold waters of the Barents Sea for much of its life. Driven by instinct, great multitudes of cod return to their original spawning grounds. They make it all the way from the depths of the Barents Sea to the coast of northern Norway. The spawning takes place in the period from January to April every year. It’s during this period the quality of the cod is at its best and the only time of the year one can fish this type of cod.
Why is Arctic Superhealth omega-3 oil of such excellent quality?
Producing a high-quality cod-liver oil requires a dedicated and careful handling of the entire production process from raw material to the finished goods.
As a producer of quality products, we consider fresh, raw material to be a basic requirement. Furthermore a short transport distance from catch area to the production process is essential.
The valuable, high content of healthy omega-3 fatty acids found in cod-liver are very sensitive to oxidation. Oxidation leads to a decrease in the nutritional value and to the development of unpleasant fishiness flavour and rancidity in the oil.
In the manufacturing process, modern technology ensures gentle processing of the raw materials, by carefully controlled low temperature and nitrogen coverage during production of crude oil and throughout refining process. This is essential for prevention of oxidative damage of the sensitive oil.
The oil varies in composition from year to year. Access to food, water temperature and conditions at the time of fishing affects the cod. It is therefore crucial with a high degree of expertise, detailed knowledge and experience in order to stabilize the oil with correct level of antioxidants.
At Arctic Superhealth the entire production process from raw material to finished product ready for bottling takes place in the same production plant. This increases the detailed knowledge of each batch of omega-3 oil throughout all stages of production.
Fewer handlings have a further positive effect on quality by reducing the exposure of the oil to light and air.
Certification – quality assurance program
Our omega-3 oil is classified as a dietary supplement. The production process and bottling facilities are HACCAP and ISO certified. The finished product is always analysed by an independent research institute. In general such analysis is performed by Eurofins in Germany.
In addition to the regular quality testing at an independent laboratory the omega-3 oil from Arctic Superhealth is certified by Informed-Sport. This is a globally recognized ISO certified quality assurance program for analysing sports nutrition. All manufacturing processes, raw materials, supply chain and quality assurance systems are thoroughly reviewed in addition to product testing. This certification makes it safer for athletes to ensure that the supplements do not contain banned substances. Professional athletes are required to check that the batch number of the product they consume is listed with Informed-Sport.
Quote from Informed-Sport :”The Informed Sport certification is a voluntary programme for reputable supplement companies who wish to register some, or all, of their products and carry the Informed Sport mark on those products. Athletes who see the Informed Sport logo on a product can be assured it has undergone rigorous checks and testing to ensure that it is not contaminated with banned substances and is safer to use.”
